Folic Acid - Important Nutritions For Women

I think Folic Acid will not be a strange name to all moms who had pregnant before. I didn’t know about it until I get pregnant. Few days ago, my hubby and I went to a nearby hospital to register to a famous doctor for my pre-natal check-up and due to the doctor is too famous, my appointment is schedule in after 10 days time! During the registration, the nurse asked me whether I am taking the supplement folic acid. I said yes. This is because when I suspected I’m pregnant, my hubby took me to the government clinic to confirm my pregnancy and during that time, the doctor had given me few supplements. I know one of them is folic Acid.

I am curious about this particular supplement because the nurse only asked me whether I take folic acid, and not other types of supplements. I am thinking this supplement must be special and important. It then triggers me to do a search from internet.

Here is some simple facts about folic acid from online search in brief, and I think it is worth to know!

“Generally, folic acid is a B vitamin. It helps our bodies to make new cells. Why folic acid is so important to women, especially pregnant women? Because it can help to prevent major birth defects of the baby’s brain and spine. It is advisable to begin taking folic acid before the woman gets pregnant! It has been saying that usually the birth defects happen in the first few weeks of pregnant, hence it usually involves before the mother realized she is pregnant.

Basically we need 400mcg of folic acid each day. We can try to obtain this nutrition from cereal but just make sure there is enough value shown on the label of the nutritions facts on the packings. Well, the other way is to direct consume the vitamins supplements.”

After reading the information I got, I began to think if I took enough folic acid even before I am pregnant. I can’t be sure actually and all I know is I begin to take it since the doctor has confirmed my pregnancy, and that was my 7th week of pregnancy already. I just hope it is not too late!

As a result, I sincerely would like to advise all married wives, and who plan to be a mommy, try to consume sufficient folic acid before you start to pregnant!
